Cloth: Seeds to Bloom

Celebrating 20 years of excellence in textile design.

This July, the Australian Design Centre celebrates one of Australia’s most influential textile designers, Julie Paterson.

Lovers of fabric, furnishing, and fantastic floral design are invited to step inside a unique exhibition experience that traces the history and evolution of Paterson’s practice and her textile business Cloth.

Cloth: Seeds to Bloom reveals the evolution of Paterson’s designs through 9 separate vignettes. Each vignette represents a creative milestone for Paterson and is marked out by handmade designs screen-printed onto floor-to-ceiling bolts of fabric and accompanied by Paterson’s own sketches, linoprints, paintings, and sample books alongside a selection of unique lamps, chairs, and rugs.

Australian Design Honours

The black book of Australia’s top designers.

Recognising the leading lights of Australian designers, thinkers, and makers, the Australian Design Honours is a growing resource dedicated to promoting and advocating for Australian design on the world stage.

Hand-picked by the Australian Design Centre and saluting 50 years of Australian design, the Australian Design Honours represents four pillars of Australian design; creative activists, digital engagers, spatial thinkers, and object makers

We’ve just unveiled our second cohort of 50 Australian Design Honourees. Stay tuned for two further announcements. Follow the link to explore the Australian Design Honours program and see who’s been nominated!

Future Nature

The evolution will not be televised.

In partnership with the Australian Museum, Future Nature explores possible futures posed by artists, designers and architects inspired by biology and the natural world.

Future Nature maps the places where art, science, and design collide. Inspired by the Australian Museum’s living collection, Future Nature explores the roots of scientific curiosity, collection, and exploration – taking things apart, examining them, and reforming them anew through scientific enquiry.

Instead of displaying curious objects to inspire wonder, the process of inspiration is what's on display – acts of creativity from 10 selected artists that use the natural world to increase our understanding of the world and our place within it.

Future Nature will feature two designers-in-residence working and creating in the new Australian Design Centre from May 26. Designers and illustrators Egg Picnic and emerging architect Justin Cawley will be exposing their creative process as they design for the exhibition.
